A Family Board of Directors is often formalized in order to manage the complexities of wealth and the wide-ranging questions wealth creates.

Committees are assigned projects consistent with their area of activity. These often include:

Investment Committee
Communications Committee
Family Unity Committee
Planning Committee
Education and Training Committee

The Wealth Advisor is a key member of the Family Board of Directors. His role is to serve as a resource for facilitating the five strategic functions of the Board:

1. Structures for Thinking (avoiding dangers and taking advantage of opportunities)
2. Structures for Making Decisions (team input and consensus development)
3. Structures for Taking Action (project and task management)
4. Structures for Communication (between and among family members / between and among family member and advisors)
5.   Structures for Change (adapting to changing family, legal, and financial circumstances)
